The Humanitarian Encyclopaedia: a space for the dissemination, collection and discussion of key concepts in humanitarian action
Workshop: Key Concepts in Humanitarian Action - How can an online encyclopaedia promote debate?
*** Workshop in English ***
*** Audience: public familiar with "humanitarian language" (humanitarian practitioners, researchers, students...) ***
The Humanitarian Encyclopedia provides an inclusive online space for dialogue and encourages the co-production of new knowledge to strengthen collaboration in future humanitarian responses. It is being developed by humanitarian professionals and academics, recognising the need to speak the same clear language, to share knowledge as a public good, and to co-produce new forms of knowledge to inform future humanitarian responses.
In order to identify commonalities and divergences in the way humanitarians communicate key concepts, it is essential to identify variations in concepts and their meanings across geographical regions and organisations. This workshop aims to locate a small set of key concepts from the Humanitarian Encyclopedia's list of 129 concepts, identified in a participatory process and validated by global experts. By capturing local perspectives on key concepts, the localized content will be directly integrated into the online and dynamic concept entries of the Humanitarian Encyclopedia, to be published in 2021.
