- Launch of the Digital Innovation Cluster of the University of Geneva
- Launch of the Hackathon aimed at designing the Digital Innovation Cluster space

Part 2: Launch of the Digital Innovation Cluster of the University of Geneva

Digital technology is a fundamental pillar of the economy. It is therefore important for a general university such as the University of Geneva to have a specific innovation space for all disciplines on digital issues. On the one hand, such a space makes it possible to form and strengthen collaborations within the UNIGE, to forge links with the community (public, companies), to make UNIGE experts in the field known, to transfer knowledge to these same actors, to provide opportunities for researchers to develop new projects, as well as to support the local economy through the development of start-ups and to provide support in the context of the digital transformation of companies. As part of the UNIGE's digital strategy, and in line with the development strategy of the University Centre for Informatics (CUI), we will develop a multi-purpose Digital Innovation Pole designed to host creativity and innovation activities in the field of digital services. The Digital Innovation Cluster is intended to be transverse to the University and to reach out to the City as well as to the State and to companies and organisations in the region.
The three missions of the Digital Innovation Cluster are
1. To support students and researchers with digital projects that are heading towards commercial exploitation
2. To offer a place to meet and collaborate with the public and private sector in the region.
3. Develop innovative services for the university community

Tuesday 19 (5pm - 8pm)

organised by SINGA SWITZERLAND and Impact Hub

Diversity, a driver for innovation? SINGA and Impact Hub Geneva propose a collaborative workshop to build an inclusive entrepreneurship in Geneva!

Diversity is a sign of richness and an opportunity for innovation, especially in entrepreneurship. People from asylum and migration backgrounds, because of their life path, bring with them new ideas, perspectives and visions that can have a real added value in the market where they operate. However, the entrepreneurial ecosystem still has many challenges (language, cultural aspects of business, network building, knowledge of local opportunities and regulations) that can limit their impact.
Through a collaborative exchange of experiences, we propose to reflect together on how to face these challenges and how to put in place concrete solutions so that the innovation potential of diversity is realised.
Whether you are a project leader recently arrived in Geneva, an experienced entrepreneur willing to share your experience, or a person who believes in the innovation potential of diversity, join us for a participatory workshop and take up the challenge of inclusive entrepreneurship!

Tuesday 19 (6pm - 8pm)

organised by Open Geneva, the University of Geneva and the Canton State of Geneva

The cyberspace is at crossroad. On the one hand, digital innovation has accelerated and permeated societies, with broadband connections and connected devices, across cities, at home and even deep into the human body. On the other hand, the acceleration of the digital society has generated unprecedented challenges, such as
a systemic lack of security and privacy,
the uncontrolled use of social media,
deception and bullying,
massive amounts of theft and frauds,
cyber weapons of mass destruction,
Human casualties following cyber attacks and vulnerabilities

The cyberspace is at a tipping point, beyond which it may change in a qualitative manner through a new wave of disruptive innovations, in order to overcome these challenges altogether. We evaluate the promises and challenges of blockchain, quantum computing & crypto, AI, as well as the human, economic, and society forces involved in the birth of an emerging sustainable cyber world: transparent, accountable, energy efficient, bringing peace, safety and opportunities for everyone.

Cities are the primary contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, as well as to numbers of other global disorders (such as sand extraction, water and air pollution). Cities being mostly built on coastlines they also primarily face the challenges of climate change and rising oceans. To ensure their resilience, cities not only urgently need to reinvent building technologies, transportation, resource supply and recycling to avoid pollution. Yet, they also need their citizens to take part to this immense innovation challenge, and change their behaviors through new technologies, and new social behaviors. The task is so immense that cities need their citizens to collectively "hack their cities", by inventing and sharing the disruptive innovations

Roughly every year, the world adds a city of equivalent to the population of Switzerland.
And as of today, they produce 75% of the planet's greenhouse gas emissions. Tackling climate change is a challenge for the planet, and for themselve

"Every few months, the world adds a city the size of Singapore. And already today, cities account for three quarters of the planet's greenhouse gas emissions. Cities will be the central actors in future climate change mitigation and adaptation. Given the digital revolution and the sustainability challenges, we now have to reinvent the way cities are built and operated, and how cities can contribute to the solutions for humanity's existential problems.
