Discover the first hackathon by RUTER and Open Geneva, bringing together employees from the Public Transport Customer Service in Oslo to bridge the gap between public transport authorities and their users and design innovative solutions for future autonomous public transport.
RUTER (The Public Transport Operator and Administrator in Oslo) and Open Geneva co-hosted an inaugural hackathon in Oslo on January 10th and 11th 2024 at Ruter S, a dedicated venue for workshops. This co-creation event brought together 36 Customer Service employees from RUTER to design innovative solutions for future autonomous public transport.
By involving RUTER's employees, the hackathon tapped into valuable insights from those who bridge the gap between the public transport authority and its users.
The participants tackled five key challenges:
- How to ensure transportation is accessible to everyone
- How to design transport that cater to diverse needs
- How to embrace new mobility services
- How to connect different modes of transport
- How to prioritize safety and security
To foster authentic engagement, the participants had the freedom to sign up for the challenge they were most passionate about. Their familiarity with each other fostered an open and safe environment, allowing for the sharing of raw and unpolished ideas, ensuring that realistic needs of citizens were reflected.
“The hackathon helped us understand what our customers want and what we need to demand from service providers to make public transport a popular choice. It is crucial that we meet the customer’s needs for this to become a real alternative to private cars” - Colleague from RUTER
The innovative ideas and practical prototypes developed during the hackathon will be further explored in the ULTIMO project and many of these concepts will be directly tested at the Groruddalspiloten deployment site in Norway.
